Kevin Caffrey's least favorite time of year to record? That's right, folks--the summertime! Entangled in wires and cramped in my little 6' x 6' unairconditioned cell, uh, I mean..."modest home recording studio" is not a fun place to be in the summer. But, somehow, someway, I soldier on to complete what I would unpretentiously like to describe as the best album of music of all time. :O)

Actually, I must admit, it's probably not *thee* best album of all time. That honor belongs to Snow's 1993 gem, _Twelve Inches of Snow_, which, if you do not have already, you should run out and buy right now. It'll change your friggin' life.

Where was I? Oh yeah, back to my favorite subject--me. Get me started talking about Snow, and I'll just never stop! June was spent arranging and recording the basic drum and guitar parts to a song that might not even make the album. At a little over seven minutes in length, I fear that the song might collapse under its own weight as I add bass, keys, percussion, and lead guitar to it later this summer. Usually there's one song on each of my albums that needs a LOT of time spent on arranging (how many verses, what instruments take the lead during different extended instrumental breaks, etc.). The title track to _Sinner Is Served_ was like that, and the arrangement of "This Is Now" from _Packaged To Play_ took me months to put together, so it's no surprise that there would be one song on this next album that would require the same amount of time and effort to just piece together. But, I think I've come up with a good basic structure to the song and I'm looking forward to working on the rest of it later this month--if everything goes well with what I have planned for it--it'll probably be the centerpiece of the album. If everything doesn't go well, then it probably won't be on the album and I would have just wasted a colossal amount of time.

So, with all the backing tracks now done for the ten new songs for the next album, the rest of the summer is going to be spent on just adding bass, keys, lead guitar, etc. to finish them up before adding vocals in the fall.

Enjoy your 4th of July!

Kevin
