The extremely melodramatic tone of your posting is typical of many that are recieved on message boards throughout non-league football. There have no doubt been things that have happened in the last couple of weeks that everyone at the club wishes hadn't. However, they have happened and we must now get on with the task in hand - supporting the new management team and their efforts to establish a squad for the start of the season.

Things can happen rapidly in football, whatever the level the club is playing at, so whether or not we paid record fees and spent lots of money over the last three years the fact is that we have decided that will not happen for the immediate future. That is not saying we are broke - rather saying that we have to do something before we are!

As for your comments about incompetence and those responsible for the club's current plight needing to resign - I for one can hold my head high and am not ashamed at the decisions the club has made over recent seasons. You forget that all of the current committee and directors of the club are supporters first of all - the fact is that we've taken that support a little step further and are prepared to try and help rather than take the easy option of saying how bad things look!

The choice to move to Knowsley Road was not without its pitfalls, but would we really want to go back to Hoghton Road (not that we now can). People have short memories - moans about the dog track, poor pitch and facilties, little hope of promotion etc, etc.

Your complaints about bad planning and management selection could be said of many clubs, my answer, if you have a valid input to make then you are welcome to join the committee and help make a difference. However, experience tells me that it is very easy to make anonymous postings and hide behind hearsay and gossip.

I for one I no intention of resigning or hanging my head in shame.

John McKiernan
Vice Chairman
