John - Although I do not know very much about how your current situation has come about I have a great deal of sympathy for you personally for the criticism you are currently having to suffer because I know just what you have given to the club over many years now. It amuses me that people talk about supporters and club officials as if they are a breed apart. In fact most club officials are the greatest supporters of all and are prepared to sacrifice time and money to try and play a part in making their club successful.
I recently resigned as secretary of Burscough, totally knackered after giving my all for 11 amazingly successful years. I am sure you must feel like doing the same at times but it is to your credit that you are talking optimistically about the future and seem prepared to take the flak and continue despite the difficulties you currently face.
Paul Lodge could surprise a lot of people, he has been ambitious to break into non-league management for quite some time and he has much he wants to prove. If clubs like Cammell Laird can put out a team for nothing and continually play football well up to NWCFL standard why can't Saints still be successful even if the wage bill is greatly reduced.
You sometimes seem to be ploughing something of a lone furrow at Saints these days, is that true? Are some of those criticising willing to come aboard and help the club recover.
All the very best - Stan S
