Robber's leg pulled off

A robber's false leg was pulled off by a mechanic trying to stop him escaping from a Kansas City shop.

The man's trousers also fell down and he was left hopping through the snow in his boxer shorts.

The equivalent of £34 was stolen from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Investigators have the leg and a video of the robbers in action.

The Kansas City Star reports the man and an accomplice went into the shop.

While one of them talked to a mechanic, the other noticed a manager counting cash.

He made a grab for the money and a fight broke out.

The manager, who hasn't been named, said: "(The mechanic) came in and grabbed him and threw him into a shelf but he had some money in his hands and started to run away. (The mechanic) grabbed for whatever he could."

He seized the man's left leg below the knee and it came off as the robbers escaped.

The manager added: "So there he was, a one-legged man wearing nothing but his boxer shorts, hopping through the snow. Once we realised what happened, (the mechanic) stood up and had the leg in his hand, and we couldn't help but bust out laughing."

The prosthetic leg, which police said had no straps, was a below-the-knee section that fitted over the stump of the man's leg.
