UK launch for online travel firm Opodo

Cut-price air fares have gone on sale as online travel company Opodo launches its UK website.

Opodo, which is already established in Germany, is backed by nine European airlines including British Airways, Air France and Lufthansa.

Independent research from pollsters NOP indicates that Opodo is cheaper than the average online fare for 85% of top destinations from the UK.

Opodo chief executive Giovanni Bisignani says: "Travellers in the UK are looking for great fares, and this NOP research confirms that Opodo will be offering some of the best deals in the UK market."

The UK website will offer more than 350,000 net fares from more than 45 airlines.

It will cover 80% of available scheduled air capacity in the British market; as well as more than 480 airlines, 54,000 hotels and 23,000 car hire locations.

Opodo will boast more than 30,000 pages of content relating to more than 1,300 destinations.

Other features include the ability to book and fly on the same day, and the chance to ask for a preferred seat.

The company - whose new UK site is at www.opodo.co.uk - will be launching in France this spring and, eventually, throughout Europe.
