This'll be using Marran and Midnight Dare, Tarjine's oldest two pups, in a hunting scene. ('Course, seeing as Tar's only four, the pups are a little over two. *G*) Showing leadership in the hunt. ^_^ And no torture, of course. Elks are always hard to take down, especially for just three wolves.

*The small she-wolf pauses, one forepaw hanging in midstep, and lifts her muzzle to the wind, sniffing intently. "Mom?" Dare asks quietly, his long-legged form topping his mother's small height easily. "Elk," she replies in a low tone, yellow eyes calculating as she rapidly plans the attack. A slim, dark sienna femme steps up, her gracefulness a stark contrast to her brother. "Elk's a little much for just three, isn't it?" Tarjine swings her head around to look at her daughter. "It's old, and a female. We're good hunters." Nodding decisively, the snow-dusted wolf moves into the open, tracking the elk's scent easily. Marran, looking uneasy, follows her mother doggedly, casting her muzzle about in hopes of finding tracks of rabbit, her favorite prey. Dare's cream-furred form bounds after his mom, an eager grin on his young face and bright eyes alert. Shaking off the powdery layer she'd received from waiting for her pups, Tarjine springs into a fast lope as she visually sights the prey. Dare follows in a headlong sprint, with Marran bringing up the rear reluctantly. All three wolves were easy for the big ungulate to spot, and with a bellow it took off running. "C'mon! They can usually outrun us!" Tarjine calls back to the two siblings, increasing her pace to almost dangerous on the snow-covered ice. "This one is old!" Dare retorts, grinning and automatically taking his mom's left side, letting Marran take right as they curved left to try to cut the elk off from its escape route. Mentally snapping at her callous brother, the dark she-wolf uses her long legs to her advantage and catches up to the two, and soon all three predators are nearing the admittedly slow elk. "Dare, head. Marran, flank." Tarjine's strong voice echoes off the pure ice that they now race on. "Mom, it's gonna slip," Dare opines, eyes wide as the elk staggers in midstride and slides, drastically losing momentum. "I know," his mother retorts with a devil-may-care laugh, gold eyes glittering with the adrenaline of the hunt. Marran mutters a growl under her breath, pushing ahead and leaping at the prey, slamming her weight into its flank and nearly tipping it over. Dare hesitates; he'd expected a fight from the elk, like usual with the big animals, but this beast was barely on its hooves, staggering and bellowing ineffectually at Marran. "Dare!" Tarjine snaps, shaking her son out of his confusion and sending him springing at the massive head. He neatly dodges the front hoof-strikes sent his way, growling and snapping and bristling like there's no tomorrow, paws scrabbling roughly on the ice. Marran continues her flank distraction, not causing much damage to the thick hide, but keeping the elk's attention away from Tarjine. Said wolf now moves in at a slinking trot, tail high but head low and ivory fangs bared. Just as the elk turns its broad skull to butt at Marran (who dodges gracefully), the she-wolf leaps, latching her powerful jaws onto the thick neck of the beast. Bellowing and kicking, the big animal tries to shake the wolf, but weakened by hunger, exhaustion, and age, it cannot. A combined pounce from Marran and Dare to one flank sends the beast sprawling, nearly on Tarjine, but she manages to spring away in time. Panting, the small wolf allows her children to finish the animal off, as quickly as possible. Once the elk lies dead, the small family exchanges proud glances. "Mom," Dare puzzles, "You knew the elk would slip when we chased it here, didn't you?" Marran looks annoyed at her brother's lack of comprehension, but says nothing, sitting on the ice and sweeping it with a plumed tail. "I didn't know, Dare," Tarjine answers with a laugh, "but that was my guess." The lanky male grins, nodding to himself, before pointedly looking at his mom, and then their dinner. Marran voices her agreement, "Smartest wolf first," and her tone owns a teasing ring to it. The small she-wolf snort-laughs, but as is customary, takes the first few bites, before her pups - well, young adults - join her in the feast.*
