Subject: Yeah there was an article about that.It is partially true & false. It was worker from Starbucks who charged a $130 for 3 cases of water. Starbucks did not, in fact when they found out what one of their employees did, they reimbursed the ambulance company & apologized. Now granted that happened after press coverage, but heres something to think about. How is the corporate office supposed to know this even truely occured with complaints that lead to media coverage? It was one person by the way. I have 2 articles for you. This 1st one is about the chain letter & charging for water.
In reply to: Varmit 's message, "I thought they were in big trouble for what they were charging people during 911. Where is rose? I know there is an article out there somewhere about them during the terrorist attack and what they were charging for water." on 10:00:33 02/09/06 Thu

Beginning chain letter >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>"The events did occur pretty much as they are described. Later versions of this chain include the text of an Associated Press article on the incident. On September 11, rescuers from Midwood Ambulance Service entered a Starbucks store near the site of the World Trade Center and asked for some water to treat shock victims. For undisclosed reasons, store employees did not give the water to the rescuers, but rather made them pay the retail value of the bottles sold separately (approximately $130 for three cases).

" <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< End chain letter.

After things calmed down some at Ground Zero and Midwood management heard of the incident, they attempted to contact Starbucks for an explanation and to hopefully get the employees a refund. Unfortunately, Starbucks once again dropped the ball and ignored the accusations until the incident was made public - mainly through this e-mail chain letter. In the wake of the subsequent media attention, Starbucks refunded the money and issued an apology.

However, this chain just plain lies when it says Starbucks has not contributed to the various relief funds. Within a month of the attacks, Starbucks had given more than $1 million to the September 11 Fund, and they continue to collect contributions from customers and friends.

This letter is a depressing example of hate and anger parading as patriotism and shows the world that we'll even turn on our own when they act in a way counter to what we feel is appropriate.

Sure, individuals within Starbucks screwed up. Yes, it is possible that they may not have atoned for their sins had news of the incident not become public - that's just bad management. But they did make things right in the crunch! We cannot and should not punish the company and all its employees for the mistakes of a few. Break this Chain!

  • Here's the second article inside. This one is an interview with Starbucks chief Howard Schulz. It explains exactly what Starbucks did do to help after the attacks. Something the media left out when they were roasting Starbucks for the stupidity & crummy behavior of 1 employee.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> -- rose, 12:11:09 02/09/06 Thu
