In reply to: Varmit 's message, "The part of getting the figure eight is easier done when roping on a horse. It comes about more easily because of the tip and angle of the loop. When your on a horse you lean forward your upper body to rope and that helps with the figure eight. So if they lean forward with their upper body when roping a dummie it should help with the figure eight part. Dummies are good for learning the basics, but I never liked them because they make you top head to many calves. Once they learn to throw, I would suggest letting them rope the dummie off of a nice gentle horse to let them get use to the angle. Its much easier in my opinion to rope a calf off of a horse then on the ground. Letting walk up as if they were running up on a calf with a horse is good, but wouldn't worry about that to much until they learn the basics. When I got to missing a bunch of calves the one thing that worked was to stand up in the saddle and let your belt buckle touch the saddle horn when you throwed your loop." on 14:59:42 01/08/09 Thu
