Among ideas suggested to replenish South Dakota's depleted road-building fund is a plan to tax drivers on the basis of how many miles they travel.

State Rep. Shantel Krebs, R-Sioux Falls, said such a formula is being tested in Oregon and may work in South Dakota.

To gauge how many miles people drive, Krebs says special devices could be installed in vehicles.

No. I've heard of them, but haven't actually seen one. It is a test program. I drive 90 miles roundtrip to work every day, plus going to whatever practice is going on, plus my rodeos. They would tax the hell out of me. Worse than they already do! (NT) -- Crystal, 07:39:40 08/04/08 Mon
