Subject: Things have changed for sure Hap. Some of us got together the last year of high school and went all summer until I went to college. Sleep in the back of a camper pickup. Sometimes sleep in a bedded down horse stall. Eat 1 meal a day. Go to 3 or 4 rodeos a week. Win a round somewhere and have enough money to keep going for another 3 or 4 weeks without worrying about winning. I doubled the money I started out with by the time I went to college, so figured I had a pretty good summer and had a good time also. I always enjoyed going to the out of the way rodeos, even though they might have 70 to 90 ropers entered. But they were out in the country and not in the middle of some big city.
In reply to: Hap 's message, "I know a couple of kids that should be getting to some of those rodeos but all they can think of is riding in the qualifying PBR events and going big time. Those "no other qualified rides" should lure some to come get on if they can ride. I see quite a few kids that can dang sure ride but never give the PRCA a chance these days. Mostly, it's because they can do fairly good at ammies closer to home and work during the week. As long as I can remember, guys would work and save lots of money and hit the road till the money ran out or in some cases they got to winning enough to stay going. From what I see, not much of that happening right now." on 12:39:00 10/22/07 Mon
