Subject: Things always went peaceful down here. But back then I don't even remember any spanish in our area. Think it was in the late 70 or 80's before they started showing up. It was usually between ranchers when they raced or guys breaking horses or blacksmiths. Everybody knew everybody, so it stay civil.
In reply to: Hap 's message, "I was at lots of matched horse races at an early age because my brother-in-law rode lots of those horses and it was my job to cool them down afterwards because he would already be on another horse. One thing I remember real well is that even though some of those race horses were a hand full for a 12 year old kid, right after running, I was happy to stay clear of the activity close to the track. You should have seen some of the brawls over those races and they usually involved those guys who didn't speak english all that well. I only went to a couple after I was grown but only bet with my buddies because they wouldn't knife me." on 16:00:22 07/31/07 Tue
