Young femme slips back from the cities she visited, to the lonesome ruins of Dago, and the swamp nearby. She retreated to this solitude daily, so she could let down her long, emeraldine tresses from their confines. She looks about, and cautiously unwraps the coarse, woolen scarf that held the feet of hair; then she removes her shawl, and all other rags used to conceal her difference. Nearly translucent, her pale aquamarine skin shines as if lit from inside, and she twitches her elfin lobes.

Finally, sure that no one was there to see her, she dives into the swamp, ripples left behind being smoothed out as if they were ironed.

Thirty meters further up the chanel she comes up for the cool, crisp air, and slips back down, no creases marring the surface. She continues in this way till she finds an overhanging ledge to sleep beneath.
