The books in this area seem to come from two directions: books for software developers about project management, and books for project managers working in software. In the first category, one of the classics I enjoy is 'Software Project Survival Guide' by Steve McConnell. It has many samples, and a web site with checklists and models. The book is very oriented toward developers who need to manage projects.

In the other category, Neal Whitten's book, 'Managing Software Development Projects', is a good book for PM's who are assigned an IS project. Its view of the world is that of a PM, not necessarily a developer.

The books do not frame the project management processes in the context of the PMI PMBOK, but they both contain critical perspectives on the IS/IT development processes, and share common problems in the development lifecycle.
