salamu alaikum,

question about this hadith i found on a christian site (although i heard something similar to the hadith before anyways) - here is the hadith:

Allah's Apostle! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?"
He said, "Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the sun when it is not hidden by clouds?"
They replied, "No, Allah's Apostle."
He said, "Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the moon when it is full and not hidden by clouds?"
They replied, No, O Allah's Apostle!"
He said, "So you will see Him [your Lord] on the Day of Resurrection similarly Allah will gather all the people... and then only this nation [Muslims] will remain, including their hypocrites. Allah will come to them in a shape other than they know [unexpected way] and will say, 'I am your Lord.'
They will say, 'We seek refuge with Allah from you. This is our place [we will not follow you]; till our Lord comes to us [in the way that we were expecting], and when our Lord comes to us, we will recognize Him.
Then Allah will come to them in a shape they know and will say, "I am your Lord.' They will say, 'You are our Lord,' and they will follow Him. Then a bridge will be laid over the [hell] Fire." Allah's Apostle added, "I will be the first to cross it...."

firstly, is this hadith authenic or did the christians change the words to confuse us or what?; and if so, plz give me the reference to where i can find this hadith. question 1. the ahlus-sunnah belief that allah will be seen on the judgment day, (because allah will Give people of jannah the ability to see him - however, we dont say allah is a body because the verse 'there is nothing like him' negates this - question 2. SEEING allah is the greatest reward for people of jannah, but in this hadith it says that allah will appear to us, but at first we dont recongize him???? (this is very very difficult to understand because seeing Allah is the best gift, but we cant recognize Him????) qeustion 3. the word allah will appear to us in a ''shape'', is very akward word, is this a correct translation? because allah is not a shape: a human body has a shape, but allah is not a body, so, what is the best translation for this??

thank You

First of all, muslim should not take his information about islam from non muslims, you should seek the knowledge about islam from Islamic sources .
Second,I like to mention important note which is:
All what has been revealed in AL QURAN or in AL SUNNAH as regards the (SIFAT) Qualities of Allah ( the most high) like His Face, Eyes,Hands,His coming,His rising over His throne ,His descent or His Laughing and others etc,The religious scholars of {the Quran and the Sunnah}Believe in these Qualities of Allah and they confirm that these are really His Qualities, without interpreting their meaning into different things(ie.giving resemblance or similarity to any of the creatures or completely ignoring or denying them,i.e.there is no Face or Eyes or Hands , etc, for Allah}.These Qualities befits or suits only for Allah Alone, and He doesnot resemble to any of His creatures. As Allah statement ( in the Quran):THERE IS NOTHING LIKE UNTI HIM,and He is the All Hearer,The All Seer 24/11,There is none comparable unto Him 112/4
We believe that the believers will see their Lord on the Day of Resurrection: "Upon that day some faces shall be radiant, gazing upon their Lord" (75:22-3).
We believe that "vision cannot perceive Him, but He perceives all vision. He is the Incomprehensible, the All-aware" (6:103).
Jarir ibn 'Abdullah said, "We were with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he looked at the moon on the night of the full moon. He said, 'You will see your Lord directly as you see this moon and you will not be harmed by seeing Him." [Agreed upon]

Suhayb reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "When the people of the Garden enter the Garden, Allah, the Blessed and Exalted will say, 'Do you desire Me to add anything else to what you have?' They will say, 'Are not our faces shining white? Have not You admitted us to the Garden and saved us from the Fire?' Then He will lift the veil and they could not be given anything they love more than looking at His Face.
L Jarir said, "We were with the Prophet and he looked at the moon--full-moon--and said, 'Certainly you will see your Lord as you see this moon and you will have no trouble in seeing Him. So if you can avoid missing (through sleep or business, etc.) a prayer before the sun-rise (Fajr) and a prayer before sunset ('Asr), you must do so.' He then recited Allah's Statement:
And celebrate the praises Of your Lord before The rising of the sun And before (its) setting." (50.39) Isma'il said, "Offer those prayers and do not miss them, muslim. We believe that Allah has no equal because His Attributes are perfect: "There is nothing whatsoever like unto Him. He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing" (42:11). „ We believe that "no slumber or sleep seizes Him" (2:255), because His life is perfect and eternal.
Allah (The most High) says (Some faces that Day shall be Nādirah (shining and radiant). Looking at their Lord (Allāh);75/22/23 ,and He says :
Remember) the Day when the Shin[] shall be laid bare (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) and they shall be called to prostrate (to Allāh), but they (hypocrites) shall not be able to do so,68/42.
We should not use any word to describe Allah ( the most High), other than what Allah or His messenger used,We should believe in what He said or His messenger ( P B UP HIM) said about Him,without saying (HOW).
For more detailes ,please read the Tafseer of the last 2 verses I have mentioned in the ( Tafseer Ibn Katheer, and in Saheeh Al Bukharee.).
May Allah ( S W T ) guide all of us,,ameen
