Aishah reported that one night she could not find the prophet (saw) next to her. Then she found him praying so she passed her fingers through his hair (to see if he had showered). He said "Your devil has surely come to you". She asked "O Allah's messenger? Do you not have a devil?" He relied "Yes indeed, but Allah helped me against him so that he embraced Islam"
Recorded by an-Nasa i. Verified to be authentic bu al-Albani (sahihu sunan in-Nasa i Number 3696)

My question is, what did Aishah do, that cause Muhammad (saw) to say that? What was her intention by running her hand thru his hair?

Allah Knows best.
