They say Ciro is dead. I do not believe them, for I have seen no body. They say there was nothing left. I turn my ears to the details. I refuse to hear them or believe them.
They say that there is nothing left for my son to rule. The troops have run off, and the war has nothing left to burn.
They say I must leave here. I was not his wife. Trevor is welcomed to stay, to be heir to what little is still here, for they believe him to truly be of Ciros blood.
We have decided to leave. Trevor is to begin a tenure at the School of Mages in Eastern Machdal, and there I believe he can finish out his boyhood and learn what needs to be learned. Perhaps as a man, he can return and reclaim what was to be his, but for now, he will live at the School. I have taken a house two days ride from there, in a small lakeside village. The sands blow constantly, but at least there is plenty of fresh water there.
We have been given our horses, and what goods we can carry, and although many seem sad to see us leave, it is not for any heartfelt friendship, but only because we represent the end of an era.
For my part, I will not miss the place at all.
Whether Ciro is alive or dead seems rather unimportant right now. His name is dead, and that is all that matters in the grand scheme of things. After so many years, I grieve no more.
I am relieved that Shos seed did not take. In fact, I believe it possible he was never here at all. It was but a manifestation of my mind, and as the years go by, I can trust it less and less.
I think of Khaless often. I miss his white braids and dark warmth at my side.
I have sent for what I have left at the Roost. It was very costly to insure none would trail the courier, and yet I dread when those things arrive, for who may have followed it from the Roost. Still..there is some excitement to that that I cannot ignore. What else have I now?
Our move should be complete within the month.
