Hi all,

Walk to Guangzhou 2004 is open for application. This is a 6-day charity walk (24 Jan 04 to 29 Jan 04 in Lunar new year) from Hong Kong to Guangzhou which aims at raising money to help the poverty in China receiving proper education. Despite the prosperous economic development of the coastal cities, there are still a huge number of children who are living in the dark and cannot even read or write. The organizing body of this event, Sower Action, believes that the basic solution to narrow the gap of rich and poverty is education. Instead of supplying food and subsidies to them indefinitely, they believe it's more important to teach them how to improve their standard of living by educating them. Although this is a huge target which is difficult to achieve, you could change the story by showing your support to them.

I personally joined the walk 2003. I talked to a lot of nice and kind people and in particular, my conservation with one of the subsidized student (he joined the walk from YuenNan) gave me a strong feeling that they are really desperate to receive education to improve their family's life. I am greatly impressed by their attitude and determination to learn. They hope one day they could use their ability and knowledge to change the fortune of their village. It's a pity that i would not be able to join the walk 2004 because of my job committment in UK. However, I do recommend everyone of you to participate in this meaning event. It's not only helping others but it's also a very good experience you will get from this activity.
