One should start learning proper professional etiquette, even as an intern.

You cannot be too polite, it will only take a couple of minutes to write a thank you note. It will mean a lot to your mother and her neighbor.

Your mother's neighbor may know people in the city you live in that she can refer to you as future clients.

You should get in the habit of following up with as many clients as you can, and if a thank you note can put your name in their minds after the fact, so much the better. They might call you again when they need you, which might transfer to $$ in your pocket.
