Here is my understanding of the terms as applied to the wrist.

> * Supinate

Sometimes referred to as 'bowing'. Rest your hand and forearm on a table with the back of your hand down (on the table). Now flex at the wrist so that your hand is raised off the table wile the forearm is still on it. That wrist is now supinated.

> * Pronate

Sometimes referred to as 'cupping'. Rest your hand and forearm on a table with the palm of your hand down (on the table). Now flex at the wrist so that your hand is raised off the table wile the forearm is still on it. That wrist is now pronated. This is the position of front wrist breakdown. The front wrist should either be flat or supinated (bowed) at impact.

Terms normally used for the rear (right if right handed) wrist. For SA the previous examples need to be modified slightly.

Rest your hand and forearm on a table with the pinky side of your hand down (on the table) and your thumb up. If you want it to be more accurate for NG of IMA tilt your hand so that your thumb is angled to the side about 45 degrees so that you palm is facing slightly up. Now flex at the wrist so that the back your hand moves toward your forearm wile the hand and forearm are still on the table. That is flexsion. If you have the original NG video, Jack K. refers to this as "45 degree subduction".

The opposite movement of the wrist (palm closer to forearm) is extension.

Hopefully this is clear. If not lets chat now as I will be out of touch for a few days.

Peter
