Max,

No you don't have your hands two inches apart. If you move your hands from an overlap grip to a ten finger grip you will be moving the right hand down toward the ground. In order to maintain the same distance from the right hand to the ground the extra two inches is for the butt end of the grip. If you view the NG episodes of Ken Ellsworth on the Golf Channel Ken explains this. The slight seperation is also taught by Ken Ellsworth, this seperation isn't a measureable amount unless you're spliting hairs.
