Subject: Westminster MD denies permit for Methadone Clinic

In the Baltimore Sun today, 1/14, the city of Westminster Maryland has denied a zoning permit for a methadone clinic treatment center. Initially, the city issued approval for the drug treatment facility but later retracted claiming that the original evaluation was incorrect. Here is the link for this story: Methadone clinic denied zoning permit in Westminster MD

Yet again we see that it's all talk and no action. Is there or isn't there a substance abuse and heroin problem in Carroll County and Westminster? Is there documentation present to indicate that drug overdoses, heroin addiction and criminal activity is on the rise in our community?

So once again it appears that there are other motives at work and unwillingness to recognize in the face of hard cold facts that this treatment facility is desperately needed and there probably was no valid reason for the city to take opposition and deny a zoning permit for this facility.

And, business owners and city residents don't want this "type" of facility located near them. Why? What do you fear?

This treatment facility will help addicts deal with their "disease" and make it less likely that they might commit criminal acts, theft, etc. in this community.

City of Westminster, politicians, citizens, business owners, health advocates; the time has come for all of us to make good on our talk to help this community by helping the individuals and families who are struggling with drug addiction. Let's say Yes to this treatment facility and do something that will make a difference!
