Maybe corruption is an integral part of capitalism, and if you wiped out the corruption there would be no "capitalism" in Russia? Capitalist economies have to grow and expand, and in order to do so they need to be subsidized and promoted by the state structures whithin which they operate. It is a symbiotic relationship which exists wherever free markets do. The Russians are either just gotten worse at hiding the corruption of their system as was done under communism, or they would just rather be honest about their dishonesty.
I mean at least they (the mafyia) are open about their activities. I think people in Russia were tired of the regime of "official" corruption wthin the old party, and the lies surrounding motives and interests. Now it is just out in the open. It would be similar to congress passsing legislation which would allow them to recieve unlimited contributions from corporations, and vote accordingly without any baby kissing or handshaking. I guess what I am getting at is that money is power, and disguising power by making it "official" does not change th fact that it is still propped up by an investment.
