Running Down the Night

Running down the night,
Gathering weary miles.
Crescent moon takes flight,
Amidst the stars he smiles.

Road slinks ever onward,
Twisting from light to dark.
Car leaps swiftly forward,
Passing prairie, hill and park.

Down the endless road I�m bound,
Long into another day.
Knowing not what�s to be found,
Nor what lies along the way.

Distant city brightly glows,
Just off my chosen route.
At this hour, all is likely closed,
I pass, and fight a gnawing doubt.

Yearling deer blocks my lane,
Panic driven in headlong fright,
Swerve left and quickly right,
Back to running down the night.
