Subject: tell them to value their life".

Hi:

I am writing in concern of the email titled "tell them to value their life"
In reading the email it seems there is a need to discuss about the impact of poverty and aids in poor countries.

As ethiopiab13 mentioned HIV is transmitted or acquired in Ethiopia mainly sexually. That is not different to the rest of the people living outside Ethiopia.
The answer to the question on the relationship of aids and poverty will be very big yes!! Of course poverty and aids are very much associated.

Both communicable and non-communicable diseases do go together with poverty. This is true outside Ethiopia including the place wherever you may be. When there is poverty there will be many sick.

When it comes telling people to respect and value their life, i think it seems very important fact is missing. The reason for increased sexual promiscuity or prostitution in poor countries is not because people would not like to respect their life.

The amharic saying (tonerna temote) and the concept you thought to be one of the main reasons why aids is affecting many Ethiopians lack any strong association. I mean, there will no be a single person (except mentally impaired) in Ethiopia or on earth that would like to die of aids.
As you know aids does not discriminate!

It affects both reach and poor. It kills both who value their life and who do not. It affects both optimistics and those who are pessimist.

When i come back to the poverty and AIDS

I think understanding the association of poverty with development/disease prevention or health promotion is very important and crucial to the group. It will be a core to plan any kind of measures that are related to disease control, prevention and management.
Those reasons will make the topic that was raised to be very important and interesting.
The association of poverty with HIV prevention and control is very simple and clear to understand. Poor economy means poor AIDS prevention, disease control and poor control of risk factors that are associated with it.

Programs that need to be carried out urgently to reduce or slow the progression or transmission of disease like aids will be very slow and sluggish in setups where poverty is rampant.

Understanding the mechanisms how communicable illnesses like aids are spread in poor countries and mastering the difficulties and constraints that are related to disease prevention and control will be very important steps in moving forward to fight HIV.

Once we understand those points it will be very easy to choose the right and appropriate methods that need to be implemented in our Ethiopian villages.
