Atmega128's are great little cards but you will need your "Box Keys" as it is Camless (No Smart Card needed) and it takes care of alot of Bev's Nags that occur with the AVR.They sell for around $70.00.
The Avr's are still working very well but with Bev it's hard to say how much longer they will last.
As for programming the Atmega it is pretty well the same as the AVR, Jeeper's is used on the Atmega as well.
