That look is going to get me into trouble, she thought. That sinful smile of his, with all that fire in his eyes, provoked something rather playful in her countenance. Polly could feel the heat of his appraisal at odds with the irritating chill of the vampire's. She thought that amused little grin of his had been a sight, but seeing someone this on edge was a satisfying little thrill all on it's own. She wanted to see what he could do with all this tense energy. She wanted to watch him at work. And oddly enough, the violent promise he seemed to emanate made her want to show off a little as well. It wasn't every day you met someone who could hold their own in a game of 'who's the better killer' or a discussion on the best ways to dispose of a body. When he gave his answer, she tossed her head back and gave a throaty little chuckle, the slender line of her throat was highlighted by the action. And it didn't go unnoticed.
If Ruger was steel, Polly was silk. If he was was blazing heat, she was searing cold. Her packaging was smooth and soft, his was rough and hard, but the enemy of her enemy had a heart beat and a vibe about him that hummed with a lust all of its own. Polly needed them to die, but Ruger wanted to kill them. She watched him sharpen and harden with that rapt gaze of hers, she watched him barely restrain his instinct to attack them on sight. Her instincts were rarely wrong and in the end that was the only reason she was giving him an inch of trust and right now her instincts said to let him follow; that she couldn't afford to walk away alone. She sensed that if she wasn't a threat to him then he wasn't a threat to her. It didn't mean she wouldn't watch her back, but Ruger didn't feel like an enemy.
"Well your Mama seems to have done a fine enough job," Polly was grinning like a Cheshire cat and leaning into his bar space without touching him, "I look forward to dancing with you, Ruger." Now that they were on the same page she felt compelled to move things along rather quickly. Polly turned towards the bar and reached for a napkin, "This is in case we get split up," she murmured.
She could see things from King Dummy's perspective. His prey wasn't acting at all as expected. In fact, she was completely ignoring him and chatting up some roughneck human. She'd spent the entire night subtly encouraging his habit of claiming her with his eyes and here she was leaning in close, with that look look that said the stranger might get lucky. Watching her write her number on a bar napkin and give it to Ruger, her fingertips brushing against his at the exchange, spurred him into action. When the vampire stood, the others started to 'untangle' themselves from their own conversations.
Polly saw everything coming together in her peripherals. She could feel the vampire's need to claim her clawing its icy tendrils down her spine. She allowed him to get away from his friends, but he was still about twenty feet away from her and Ruger when she made her move. She chuckled low and dark and their predictability before reaching out and grabbing her drink. The hunter at her side felt like he would snap if they got too close and Polly didn't feel like testing his restraint further with so many witnesses around. It was for the same reason that what she was about to do was so bold, and clever, and a little too reckless for comfort, but what hunter could say otherwise? She brought the refilled glass to her lips.
Polly didn't play well with others when they backed her into a corner. Being a little thing like her, and having been on the shit side of missions gone wrong, had made her overly cautious. So while she'd only been expecting King Dummy, she had made sure to lay traps at both exits in case of impeding disaster. It had taken little more than the swipe of her finger on the phone to make the devices begin their readying processes when she realized she'd have need of them. It was a wonderful thing what you could do with the right lights installed in your car and the ability to use remote start. Of course these particular lights were were hunter rigged to do some pretty serious damage to UV light sensitive vampires. The back door had been fitted with a tiny mister that would unload it contents the second it detected a moving body that lacked enough heat to register as alive.
Vampires had control, they had laws and territories. Secrecy was sacred. They didn't frenzy in a crowd of witnesses or there would be a lot more scrutiny. The two vampires she didn't recognize, one redheaded, the other blonde, had stood up and moved away from the humans. That's when she drank her whiskey down in one smooth go. As she moved to set the glass on the bar it slipped from her fingers. Her clumsy swipe was unsuccessful, it shattered just over the corner of the bar. Glass shards rained down to the ground in a glitter of light over the reflective material. Most of the glass landed on the floor, however a few shards found there way to Polly's thigh, the same place King Dummy has spent a lot of time admiring. The scratch wasn't bad at all, just enough for a bit of red to bleed to the surface.
Every vampire in the room froze. The two young ones were the first to move, quickly and directly in the direction of the door. They needed distance and fresh air now and took the fastest route. The door creaked and groaned with the force of the blonde vampire's grip. Polly only resorted to this trick when she knew she was going to kill whatever she was hunting that night anyways. The same blood that made them fixate and track her down would clear a crowded area pretty damn quick when they weren't prepared. She knew her blood seemed to be headier and richer when dangled in front of them like that and in a place like this, a little blood ensured they gave her the space she needed to take control of things once more.
King Dummy's eyes were fixated on the tiny break in Polly's skin and it looked like he was going to move forward, towards that glittering fan she was handling. But then there was a flash of light and a loud boom, like thunder, followed by screams just as the door shut. Their voices were lost in the screams of some of the startled humans who hadn't been expecting the 'thunder' to be this close. His angry eyes flashed up and locked with her icy blue gaze. His friends had just walked into her trap and he was well on his way. Polly didn't want him making guesses about Ruger's involvement. Her subtle movements made sure the vampire's greedy gaze stayed on her.
Polly used the lace of her fan to brush the remaining glass off her thigh as she smirked pleasantly in Ruger's direction; it slid from her flesh to the floor without scraping her skin further. The fact that she had the vampire questioning himself was a good sign. The line of blood on her thigh, along with whatever he had been contemplating doing there, had rendered him completely motionless for a good ten seconds as he decided what to do. Finally, he moved quickly away from them, headed towards the back exit. A dark little smirk crossed her lips. She was really hoping he'd take the back door out.
Grabbing her phone she sauntered towards the front door, trusting Ruger would follow, she ignored the tourists and their drinking games and the dancers on the floor. It had been important to get the vampires out, it had been even more important to get them out before anyone could tie the hunters with the vampires. No one would guess most of what had taken place that night. And while a drunken brawl occasionally had a time and a place, it wasn't tonight. Polly was par for the course tonight on wrapping things up with a neat little bow. It didn't bode well for her and she knew it. Tonight would be messy. Otherwise, she wouldn't have such a strong feeling she'd need Ruger at her back before the Sun came up.
Polly knew they weren't nearby when she walked into the chilly, damp air of the night. There was a set of keys and and a smashed cellphone on the ground from the surprise of being caught in her trap. Her SUV was parked with the headlights facing the door, battery completely dead. The UV lights were strong enough to burn through more than a few layers of vampire skin and judging by the amount of ashy powder whipping around in the wind, she'd really managed to nail one of them. It would be mega pissy and extra mean because of the pain, but if she was lucky they'd find him before his eyes grew back.
The dark of the night was quickly becoming pitch as the light was eaten up by the brewing storm. It was hard to make out the little black circles among the rocks and grit of the pavement, but Polly could see that some of the tracking beacons had released so she pulled up the right app on her phone. The smile that lit her face was very reminiscent of a child for whom Christmas had come early. She had a good signal on all three of the bastards. "Well, well, well, it looks like they're playing my favorite tune. It's time to crash the party, Tiger, we don't want to be late for all the fun," the smile that curled around her lips was genuinely pleased.
"We'll have to take your ride or go on foot," she was pulling a heavy looking duffle bag from her SUV and had already kicked her shoes off and tossed them into the darkness of her vehicle. She rather hoped he would drive. She'd had to fight in a cocktail dress before, but she was quietly hoping she could slide on some pants while he drove. The screen of her phone was visible enough so Ruger could see the basic little tracking system that was running. It didn't have a long range and they'd need to make the trek and fights quick if they were going to get all three before one managed to pull out of range.
