(Network 54 was acting up so I posted here as well)

Eremis tried to ignore Cas' angry ranting as they led the girl to their apartment. After all, he wasn't about to toss Lonta aside simply because she didn't have any money. Hopefully, someday Cas would learn that money wasn't everything. Helping others in desperate need and forming close friendships were much more rewarding than anything that money could ever buy! At least that's the way Eremis saw it. Anyway, they were pretty well off at the moment so it wouldn't hurt to spend a little of it on someone less fortunate. He seriously thought about telling Cas to shove a sock in his mouth when he wouldn't shut up, but thankfully the demon boy finally quieted down once they reached their apartment.
While Cas went off to prepare lunch, Eremis nodded for Lonta to sit down upon the couch. He knelt down before her then pulled out some of the things he purchased at the herb shop from the sack before Cas rushed up to snatch it away from him in an angry huff. When he saw the youth setting a pot on the stove a moment later he realized he grabbed the sack because he needed the herbal tea. "I'll be right back, Lonta. I need to get a wet rag so I can wash your arm before I apply salve and a bandage."
"I'll be waitin' right here, sweetie," she said, tossing him a wink while twirling his dagger in her hand.
Eremis gave her a tight smile then got to his feet and grabbed an old towel and the bucket before heading out into the hall where the water barrel was located. As he filled the bucket he found himself wishing that they had an apartment with indoor plumbing AND a bathtub at least! Later he'd count out their money and if they had enough of it, maybe he could talk Cas into looking for a better place to live. Hell, they were paying 200 gold a week for this hovel; maybe if they tried really hard they could find something decent for a little more money. He knew that Cas wanted to save their money so they could go adventuring but why couldn't they live in a nicer place until they finally had enough saved to move on? All he had to do was convince Cas!
He nodded to himself as he carried the full bucket back inside, setting it on the floor then kneeling in front of Lonta again. "Could you stop pointing that dagger at me?" he asked while ripping the towel in half. When she giggled and leaned forward to slip the blade into the sheath at his waist he mumbled his thanks. After washing the blood from her arm, he broke off a piece from the aloe plant, applying some of the sticky liquid to the cut before wrapping the other half of the towel around it. "Go get some food now," he told her as he moved to put his things away.
Eremis rolled his eyes a number of times while listening to Cas and Lonta bicker back and forth. When he realized that Lonta thought that he and Cas were lovers, he smirked then blushed after he found himself wishing it was true. He looked up and met the vivid green eyes of his friend, grateful that Cas wasn't a mind reader because if he were, Eremis would feel like a real idiot right now.
As soon as he sat down at the table, a loud knock sounded from the door. He gave Cas a wide smile while watching him drag his artist supplies into the room. "I ain't got practice until dark," his friend said, "so maybe you can start drawing some more pictures or something, if you want."
Before Eremis could reply, Lonta piped up then let out a squeal of delight when she learned he was an artist. He watched her rush out into the hall to wash up then shifted his gaze to Cas who asked if he could keep the sketch Eremis had made of him. "Damn it!" the healer hissed. "I forgot to buy a frame for that picture so we could hang it up." Of course he was talking about the nude sketch he did rather than the one that had Cas clothed in a Tristan-like coat. He scarfed down several bites of ham and cheese while trying to figure out how he was going to go about painting on canvas when he never did it before.
"I'm ready for posing!" Lonta announced. Her face was covered with red blotches from scrubbing so hard. "Ya want me to get naked then lay across the bed looking all seductive?"
Eremis nearly choked on the piece of bread he was swallowing. He shot Cas a look when he sensed that he was about to say something awfully rude then gulped down some tea before facing Lonta. "I think I'll work with fully clothed models until I get the hang of working with paint. Maybe I'd do simple sketches first then try to reproduce them on canvas."
"Sure, whatever you say, master painter!" Lonta quipped. "Hey! Isallright if I crack open that bottle a wine I see sitting on the counter?"
Before Cas could open his mouth, Eremis nodded since he wouldn't mind a bit of wine right now. Lonta returned to the table with three glasses, filling each one to the rim before she sat down. Her eyes went as wide as saucers when Eremis pulled a pack of Lotus cigarettes from his pocket and set them on the table. Before either of her male companions could blink she had one in her mouth, leaning over to light it from the candle. "I ain't had me one a these in a while," she said, blowing the sweet smelling smoke in Cas' face.
When the demon-boy gave her a dirty look, she focused on Eremis instead since he seemed a lot nicer. And nicer people were always more gullible! "I'm feeling real weak from all that blood I lost, Eremis. Wouldya let me stay here til I regain my strength? I wouldn't be no bother. I promise ta be as quiet as a mouse and keep outta the way." She spun her head around when she heard Cas snarl then turned back to the healer with a pretty smile on her face.
"We can't just toss her back out on the street yet!" Eremis said, locking eyes with Cas for a moment. "My healer instincts told me she was undernourished, so she's not lying when she says she's feeling weak. As soon as she's stronger she can be on her way, okay Cas?"
Lonta bolted from her chair and wrapped her arms around Eremis giving him a fierce hug. "Thank you, thank you," she cried before planting a kiss on his lips.
The healer had to actually push her away when her tongue forced its way into his mouth and whipped around his inner cheeks. "Why don't you go take a nap," he suggested, snatching the cigarette from her hand.
She patted his cheek then tweaked his nose before running toward the bed and diving onto the mattress. Eremis didn't have to look at Cas to know that he was glaring at him. He could feel those green eyes boring a hole in flesh! After clearing his throat he took a drag from the cigarette then set it into a dish before glancing at the artist supplies. "Think I'll ready some canvas at least," he said.
He got to his feet but instead of heading toward the supplies he moved to kneel before Cas. His hands came to rest on his friend's thighs while his glazed eyes stared up at him. "Don't be mad at me, Cas," he whispered. "She can pay us back by cooking and cleaning up the place when we're off at your lessons or working. I promise we'll get rid of her as soon as she's stronger."
"Hey, can one a you sweeties bring me my glass of wine and that cigarette so I can finish it before I fall asleep?" Lonta suddenly called out from the bed.
