Hi, Danielle,
First of all, if you don't think you should marry the father of this baby, don't marry him! You don't need to relive the pattern. We will be here to support you.
As far as losing weight is concerned, make it a point to eat a more healthy diet. If you do, then you will either lose weight or gain the right kind of weight. I am working on a weight problem, too. I'm 62, and that is one of the reaosns I have a problem. It's tough; I am well aware of that. I have started taking Oregon Grape and a teaspoon of coconut oil a day. I stay away from ALL artificial sweeteners. They all tend to aggravate a weight problem. Aspartame is one of the worst. It's an excitotoxin that actually makes people crave sugar and undermines fat-burning mechanisms. Another excitotoxin to stay away from is monosodium glutimate (MSG). Cutting down on sugars is a must, but one should keep fat intake at a healthy level. Depriving the body of fat can actually cause the body to retain fat. If you get the right kind of fat, that helps. The common vegetable oils are not good for you; that includes canola oil (which is a genetically engineered product anyway), soy oil, cottonseed oil, and corn oil. Good fats include Omega-3 fatty acids (but not Omega-6, so get the Omega-3's from fish oil instead of flax seed, which contains arachidonic acid), coconut oil, olive oil. Also it is important to eat butter instead of margarine. Whole milk is preferable to reduced fat milk, because that deprives your body of fat. I try to eat plenty of protein. They say that in terms of calories, someone should eat approximately equally from protein, fat, and carbohydrates. Perhaps some people should eat more protein. Soy protein is hard to digest and they are learning that soy protein isn't good for you. If a person eats soy at all, tofu is probably OK. Raw and lightly cooked vegetables are important. They say that if you stop eating sweets cold turkey, you'll crave them for a few days but not after that. I have verified this. I still eat a little, but I have cut way back. I hope these ideas are helpful.
Hugs,
Pat
