I actually had the ultrasound and was given the medication in the ER. I tried to call my gyno today but hes not in on fridays. Ill wait till monday so i could talk to his nurse. You know part of me was happy to see a positive pregnancy test again...wow i cant believe it i would have been almost 11 weeks now...I know this is a stupid question but after having a surgical abortion and taking that medication and all the antibitics and the percocet they gave me for pain (which i didnt have) and the bleeding...is there a chance that it all failed or it was more then one and there is still something unharmed inside me...i know its impossible...but i just have this wierd feeling im still pregnant. We waited for 2 weeks after the abortion to have sex again...so we had sex for the first time about a week ago...last thursday (unprotected...but he didnt ejaculate in me) I KNOW THAT IS STUPID...I KNOW I KNOW!!! it just happened ...i was depressed and he was there and we had not had sex or been close to each other in over a month and i just needed it the closeness...but im sure if i got pregnant from having sex a week ago it wouldnt show up in a pregnancy test yet right? I feel so stupid..i read other teenage girls posts and they stupid things like im saying at 24...unprotected sex after an abortion...how stupid am i! Ill never have another abortion again....anyways back to the present...do you think maybe my test is still positive because i still just have hormones inside me?? im sure that is the case..PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well it sounds like your surest answer will come from your next visit with your doctor/nurse, hopefully on Monday. Speculation is only that until then. It's most likely the residual hormones. It takes the body awhile to believe it's not pregnant anymore.

But a retained pregnancy after an abortion is not unheard of, either.

About the unprotected sex thing, don't worry; we won't beat you up over that. It's your life and your choices. It might be helpful for you to be aware, though, that statistically a LOT of women get pregnant again within 6 mos of having an abortion. I believe a lot of this works subconsciously, hence the otherwise normally smart women not using protection again, etc.

Are you still running any fever?
