When a horse chews on the bit, it is a signal that the horse is accepting the contact. I am a dressage rider, so when a horse chews, this is a good thing. Your horse may also be evading the bit. A horse evades the bit because its easier for him/her to run around with their nose in the air, instead of maintaining a steady contact at all times. If your horse is sticking his tongue out and has his mouth wide open all of the time, you may want to purchace a flash which will keep his mouth closed. If your horse is just moving his teeth around with his mouth closed, this is a good thing. He is responding to your hand aids and is ready to work for you
