I was told they actually were about to kill Rachel while she was giving birth if the show had to end this season. But then NBC paid more for season 9 so the plan to kill Rachel was canceled. Anyway I never thought of the rumor as true since Friends is a sitcom and as everybody knows, nobody really dies on sitcoms. Besides, it would be a really stupid plot to kill here, since we ALL want to see Rachel and Ross together again.
By the way rumors say that NBC plan to do a Friends spin-off after the series's over, with Joey as the lead character. Sounds interesting.
