The best place to hide here is Lightening Ridge. On the sign at the beginning of town it says "Population ?" There are all sorts up there. Probably a whole heap of illegal immigrants, as every second person you talk to has some kind of accent. The town policy is "Ask no questions-tell no lies" It is in the middle of nowhere and M and S could mine opals for a living. They can cash them in with one of the many local dealers or another of the more underhanded ways of selling them without declaring income or even who you are. Yes, they should have gotten on that plane in Canada and they could be living safely in a [yes I'm serious] *train carriage* or some other lumped together bits of tin and this and that excuse for living quarters, that the locals seem to have up there. A lovely place. Must email you a picture some time. Looks a bit like an alien landscape too.
