Do you think CC would have had Scully place William for adoption *AND* killed off the Lone Gunmen if XF had been renewed for a tenth season??
I sincerely doubt he would of done either, and almost certainly not both, of these things if he was going to be producing more XF TV eps. I didn't watch season nine (except for "The Truth") but having Scully give up her baby *AND* lose three of her best friends in one month seemed kind of like overkill to me, even for a show that made a habit of heaping misery on its main characters.
