Subject: It was the one where (season eight spoilers)

Scully went into the hospital with pregnancy complications. At the beginning of the episode, Scully had ordered a pizza and Mulder came over to bring her a present, which turned out to be a doll. When the pizza arrived, Scully was doing something in the bedroom or bathroom and just hollered out to Mulder, who was in the living room "Pay the guy, will you?" and Mulder made some sort of joke about picking up the tab, but also whipped out his wallet and paid for the pizza. Immediately after that, Scully had to be rushed to the hospital, so I guess nobody ate the pizza.
My point (which I also made immediately after the episode aired) is that if you've ordered a pizza and a friend or co-worker (of either gender) happens to stop by before it arrives, you wouldn't normally expect them to pay for the pizza you ordered. On the other hand, most "couples" (in the romantic sense of the word) do tend to take kind of a community property attitude toward their finances and pretty much feel it doesn't matter whose wallet the money comes out of.
