Well what’s that weapon? It’s the Word of God. The Word of God is that weapon that is not fleshy. The Word of God is that weapon that is not carnal. And the Word of God is that weapon that will cast down strongholds and old ways of thinking in your life. Look at what he says in the next verse. He says: “casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ”.

Now here’s the thing that was amazing to me when I first read that Scripture: is that you have the authority to bring every thought into the obedience of Christ. I grew up thinking that there was no way you could control your thought life. So whatever would come through your thought you would just have to, you know, submit to it because, after all, nobody can control the way that they’re thinking. Well that’s absolutely not the truth. Not only can you control the way you are thinking, but you can bring those thoughts into the obedience of Christ.

Now I do agree with what brother Hagen used to say. He said: “you can’t stop the birds from flying over your head, but you can stop them from building a nest in your hair”. Well, what do I mean by that? I remember years ago I went to pick up something from the grocery store for Taffy at Ingles. And standing in front of me was this sweet, dear, dear old lady was standing right there in front of me, you know? And this thought came by: “why don’t you push her and see what happens?” I’m ashamed to tell you that - I don’t know where that thought came from. I don’t know whether it was a movie I saw or some….where did that thought come from? And I’m thinking like: “of course I’m not going to do that“. Well see that’s what he meant: you can’t stop the birds from flying over your head, but you can stop them from building a nest in your hair - of course I’m not going to go up and push her.

And I’m sitting up…"where in the world?" and I start laughing…”why would I even think something like that? Where did that come from?” And the first thing I thought about is: “dude, you got to be, you got to be really watchful for what you hanging around and what you listening to and what you doing”. You know? And even today, you know, we going around here, a little rap music and everything and you know, and all the sudden you come around somebody and you just like - the thought comes in your mind: “just kill ‘em”. And you trying to figure out: “where that came from?” It’s cause you kept listening to: “aww….just kill ‘em, awww….just kill ‘em….ay….kill ‘em, kill ‘em, just kill ‘em, aww….kill, kill, kill ‘em”. And so no wonder when you got in the middle of a place and the thought came by: “kill ‘em” because it was incubating somewhere and that’s why the Bible says: “be careful how you are hearing”. I mean that’s not you, that’s not even part of your character - where’d that bird come from? Are y’all listening to what I’m saying?

You can be a custodian - a good custodian over your thought life. But you’re gonna have to know enough of the Word to cast that thought down. You don’t sit up there in the middle of a public place and try to fight thoughts with thoughts. You’re up there like: “um”, “UM,UM”, “um, um, UM, UM, UM”….”. Somebody’s gonna think you crazy. Say this out loud: “you don’t fight thoughts with thoughts, you fight thoughts with words”. So when a thought comes through that says: “you know what? provision is never coming to your house”, you open your mouth up and you say: “you know what? My God shall provide all of my needs”.
