Teachings 6

intouch.org radio 5/14/14 "You are forgiven" part 2 (verbatim portion of a message)

16:35

We are forgiven children. And fellowship and communion are broken by sin - restored by confession. And that which tarnished us is immediately wiped away because, you see, He says: forgiveness means to remit - that is - to take away. So what does He do? He takes away the barrier that broke our fellowship and communion. He likewise takes away that which contaminated us as His children.

Listen, what confession does, confession is God's method of allowing me to experience renewed communion and renewed fellowship. It does not get me forgiveness that I just lost. It removes that which broke my communion and fellowship and renews my communion and fellowship and I keep moving under the grace and the love and the forgiveness of Almighty God. I want to tell you something, my friend: God has forgiven you of your sin.

If you accept it, you walk under it. If you reject it, you'll die and go to hell, because you rejected God's only begotten Son - the greatest gift of forgiveness and the only means of forgiveness that man will ever have. If you are saved, you can lose your fellowship and your communion, but you'll never lose your standing and never lose your relationship to Him as a child of God. You disobey God, waste your life, God have to put you on the shelf, grieve the heart of God, lose your joy, lose your fellowship, lose your your communion, lose your power with Him - but the very moment you're willing to confess that - and that confession is on the basis of what He did, not what you promised to do, fellowship and communion are restored.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

James 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

intouch.org radio 9/22/15 "A personal plea for liberty"

21:22

Where on your priority list is worshiping Jesus Christ and praising Him and adoring Him - loving Him and expressing that to Him privately, publicly, audibly, silently, in prayer, in song - whatever your posture may be - where is that in the priority of your life? Because you see here's what we do: we substitute service for worship, praise, adoration and love. And you know why we do that: because it is easier to work for God than to love Him when you are hung up in bondage.

Think about this, as long as I am actively engaged serving God - watch this - I don't have to think about me. In fact, I can be so busy serving God, I can avoid even thinking about my relationship to Him. But when I am worshiping Him, and praising Him, and loving Him, and adoring Him, what I am comes to the forefront. And if I am not what I ought to be, I have to quickly deal with that.

Mark 12:28 - 31 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, what is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Romans 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

Romans 14:15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.

Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

1 Corinthians 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

1 Corinthians 8:12,13 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

1 Corinthians 10:32,33 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

Galatians 1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

intouch.org radio 9/24/15 "Liberty, not license"

15.54

You cannot live up to everybody's expectations - there's no way to do that. So we're not talking about living up to their expectations. We're not talking about pleasing everybody who is a christian - there's no way for us to do that.

But we have liberty in Christ Jesus to live our life, to become the total people He wants us to be. And God Almighty through His Spirit will guide us into the activities that we ought to become a part of, the things we ought to do, the relationships we ought to develop. And in so doing, and so abiding in His will and following His leadership, we're not going to cause our brother to stumble.

If your motivation is right towards someone else who may not agree with your liberty, I'll tell you what will win them: your loving devotion and service to that person will convince and persuade them there is something about your life they cannot explain. That what you may feel freedom to do they may not feel freedom to do but they will say: "but there is something about her spirit that I just cannot deny."

And see, love will tear down the walls that separate us from other people because of some idea or ideas they have that christians are to walk around in black suits, never smile and not enjoy their christian experience......

There's some things if I love Jesus Christ I will not be a part of. There's some things that I would not be a part of that somebody else may not understand. But the issue is that you and I are committed to walking in His Spirit and at the same time being sure we are motivated by love to Him and love toward each other.

18:40

If my heart is right, I'm going to serve Him and obey Him motivated by love and I'm going to help my brother because I love him. I will not deliberately do something against the Word of God to cause my brother to stumble. Now the teaching of the Scripture is the final authority of what is right and what is wrong. The interpretation of the Scripture is what gets us all confused and on each other's back.

And so, when you think about the kind of life that you live, do you get up everyday saying? “well, do the best I can today. I know I’m going to sin because, you know, after all, saved by grace – we’re still sinners”. Is that your attitude?

Or should it not be? “thank God He saved me and the Holy Spirit is living on the inside of me. And Father today, by Your help and Your strength, and Your divine guidance, I’m going to walk holy before You. I’m going to be obedient to You today. I choose to live a sanctified life. And therefore, I’m trusting the Holy Spirit to guide what I say, guide where I go, guide what I touch, guide what I think, guide what I feel. I want to walk holy before You today".

Once you’re saved, the christian life is meant to be a journey that matures you into the likeness of Christ.

22:20

The wisest thing you can do is to make a decision: “From this point on here’s how I’m going to begin my day: I’m going to connect before I get out of bed. Lord, I thank You that You have a plan for my life today. I thank You Lord that Your timing is perfect. I thank You that You’ll bring into my life whatever You need to bring. You’ll protect me, You’ll guide me, You’ll lead me. If I go through any kind of suffering and hurt and disappointment and all the rest, I’ll trust You to bring me through that. Lord, I want to thank You that today, I’m going to walk obediently before You. I’m going to trust the Holy Spirit to do the speaking in me – to give me guidance and direction. And give me Your timing. Whatever You have for me, I’m available to wait. I know that waiting will grow me up, strengthen me, prepare me for what You have. I want to thank You for this day and Lord let my life be fruitful all day long”.

You begin the day that way, and all the sudden, your days - on the cloudiest day you’ve ever seen - sun’s going to be brilliant. You know why? Because you are connected with the Father.

James Baer

There is a great gulf between the idea that God accepts me because of my own efforts, and the idea that God accepts me because of what Jesus has done in me. Self-righteousness operates on the concept, "I obey, therefore I am accepted." The Gospel concept is, "I am accepted by my faith in Christ's work, therefore I obey."

One obeys out of duty. The other obeys out of gratitude. One feels forced into obedience. The other feels drawn into obedience through love for Christ.

22:39

Often times, it requires courage to obey God. There are some things that are very difficult for us to do as believers. And often times, God will give us challenges and we think: “Lord, You must have made a mistake. No way. There’s no possibility of me doing that”. But God doesn’t make any mistakes. And that’s the way God stretches our faith. That’s the way He grows us up by pushing us ahead to face circumstances and situations and obstacles and trials and assaults in life that grow us up in our faith that strengthen us and each one giving Him the opportunity of demonstrating His faithfulness and the capacity He’s given us to survive in those kinds of situations. I don’t know what you’re facing but this much I know, that if you’re willing for God to work in your life, He will enable you to face it fearlessly, boldly, bravely, calmly and victoriously if you will do it His way.

intouch.org radio 1/7/15 (edited portion of a message)

16:55

The more intimate you live with Him, the less you can disobey Him. And the more intimate you live with Jesus Christ – the more intimately you live with Him, the more sensitive you become to grieving Him.

--------------------------------------------=

The Christian life is not a question of rules or relationship, but rules based on relationship. It’s morality because of intimacy with God. When you understand that, you’ll trust whatever God asks of you.

intouch.org radio 9/9/15 "Relapse from liberty"

7:18

Now listen, God, through Jesus Christ, through the power of Holy Spirit, has called us into a life of grace. And when I comprehend the meaning of the life of grace, I will not work for God for His acceptance, I will not work for God for His favor, I will not work for God to please Him, I will not work for God out of the motivation of fear, I will want it and desire to work for God why? Out of the motivation of love - driven by love because I love Him, because of what He's done for me, not because if I don't, God is going to do something real drastic in my life.

God doesn't want us living in fear and unto bondage. He wants us to live in perfect freedom - listen - you and I have been accepted on the basis of what? According to 2 Timothy 1:9, upon what basis have we been accepted? The grace of God - the pleasing purpose of the Lord. So we don't have to go around in bondage.

Now listen, that doesn't mean you shouldn't tithe and you shouldn't attend church - we ought to do all of those things and a lot more things - but motivated by love, not because we're afraid of what God's going to do and if this is going to happen and that's going to happen. Our motivation ought to be love.

---------------------=

intouch.org radio 9/10/15 "In defense of liberty"

5:32

..the origin of the message of liberty that we as the children of God have been saved by the grace of God - we are free to live that life of grace. And we don't have to be checking up on ourselves to see if we're meeting somebody else's standards or following rules and regulations. The only rule and regulation of the Scripture is that I am to do what? I am to live by the grace of God through faith - and if I live by His grace through faith, I am going to obey Him - not because I'm afraid of what He's going to do if I won't, I'm going to obey Him motivated by love, motivated by devotion to Him.

God knows that testing is a time of stretching - and that growth demands stretching. And stretching means my faith increases. And as my faith increases, I grow in the Lord. And as I grow in the Lord, my commitment grows. And as my commitment grows, I become more useful to God. As my commitment to Him grows, I as a person become more valuable to God’s great purpose in life.

intouch.org radio 6/9/15

Sometimes people say: “well, I don’t know why must not have gotten any further along in life.” More than likely it’s because back here in things that you thought were insignificant, God thought they were very significant because He was testing you, giving you the opportunity, testing you – trying you, and revealing to you how you were responding. And I think many people wonder why or how - somehow they missed it in life when the truth is: they didn’t respond correctly in the simple little tests and trials that came their way.

intouch.org Television broadcast 9/28/14

What is the evidence of an awareness of God’s presence in our lives?

He’s continually in our thoughts, both conscious and unconscious. As we go about our daily responsibilities, we have a subconscious awareness that the Lord is always with us.

We persistently seek His guidance. When our minds are set on the Lord, we want His direction for our choices in every area of life.

We view the Lord as our constant Companion. No matter what we go through—even the loss of a loved one—we know we’re not alone.

Being aware of God helps us see everything in the light of His presence. This gives us a sense of safety because He keeps us through trials, reminds us of the dangers of sin, and provides for all our needs.

We experience Christ’s peace in the midst of storms. Knowing that nothing in this world is more powerful or knowledgeable than almighty God gives amazing peace and confidence in the midst of difficulties and suffering.

His presence creates a hunger within us for the Word of God. Reading the Scriptures is like listening to the Lord speak directly to us. When we begin each morning in His Word, we are reminded all day long of His instructions and His constant care.

Living with an awareness of the Lord brings joy to our hearts. Knowing that our omnipotent God is constantly with us puts troubling circumstances in their proper place—under His authority—and gives us the unexplainable joy of His companionship.

We are more conscious of the good things God sends us. Instead of giving others credit or attributing luck as the source of our blessings, we’ll realize that every perfect gift comes from the Father above (James 1:17).

The Lord’s presence causes us to continually live in dependence upon Him. Our first reaction to trouble is to call upon Him for help and protection.

Prayer is a priority in our lives. We don’t just come to the Lord with our problems and requests but carry on a conversation with Him all day long, either verbally or in our thoughts.

When everything looks bleak, we continue to have hope. Our confidence is in God, not in good circumstances. He is our Helper and Sustainer.

Every decision is sifted through God’s will. In each choice, our first thought is to do what the Lord desires.

We consider needs in the light of His presence. Since He is our provider and knows exactly what we need, we have no cause for worry. We simply ask the Lord for help and trust Him to provide.

Our worship is authentic and rewarding. Church isn’t just a religious routine but a chance to gather with believers and enter into God’s presence with adoration.

An obedient lifestyle is the result of living in tune with the Lord. The more aware we are of Jesus in our lives, the less we tolerate sin because we know it doesn’t fit us anymore.

We have a strong, intimate relationship with Christ. As we live with the mindset that He is always with us, our love for Him and sensitivity to Him increase.
