Subject: How the Synoptic Gospels follow in order (updated)

Luke 13:6-9

Plan to help the fig tree

Mark 11:12-22

Fig tree cursed but delayed result

Mathew 21:19

Fig tree cursed and immediate result

Luke 4:8,9

Jesus Christ tells the evil one to go but the evil one continues to persist with another attempt to tempt Jesus Christ.

Mark 1:13

Jesus Christ encounter with the evil one is described in a way that does not indicate the dimensions of Jesus Christ's battle with the evil one - showing that Mark represents a transitory stage.

Matthew 4:10, 11

Jesus Christ orders the evil one to leave and the evil one leaves at that order, thus indicating a final triumphant victory.

Luke 8:41,42

Lay dying

Mark 5:22,23

point of death

Matthew 9:18

already dead

Luke 20:16

The Chief Priests and scribes respond with the statement "God forbid" when they perceive Jesus' parable is referring to them and harsh judgment. Seems like they are resisting the prediction Jesus is making, as if it seems like a shocking realization to them.

Mark 12:9 - 12

The Chief Priests and scribes make no obvious reaction to the parable that Jesus makes that refers to judgment upon them. So this is a less obvious stage.

Matthew 21:41

The Chief Priests and scribes say a harsh judgment against themselves in response to Jesus' question about the parable that He presented to them, showing that judgment is the theme of the Gospel of Matthew because Matthew's Gospel represents "the end" - that's why Jesus' predictions and parables throughout Matthew's Gospel seem to have harsh endings about throwing wicked people into darkness - it's the end.

Luke 23:48

People respond With remorse

Mark 15:38

Veil is rent, but no obvious consequence follows

Matthew 27:51-53

Veil is rent and the consequence is power going forth to cause earthquake and resurrection.

Luke = the beginning (people respond - start of the plan)

Mark = middle stage

Matthew = the end (resurrection after the crucifixion - people's response not important anymore because it's the end - the Heavenly Father's judgment being executed is what matters now at the end)
