It's been interesting reading all of the posts concerning Global On-Line Systems and Herbalife. What is really fascinating is how uniformed and self-opinionated most of the purported expert information really is.
I think it's important that I clarify who I am before continuing for the more cynical of you. I am a former Amway and retailing Herbalife distributor. What's really going to blow your minds is that both of these companies are Great companies with real, cutting-edge products that I and my family continue to use, daily.
Take Herbalife for example. The new CEO is Michael O Johnson, formely of Disney Studios responsible for the total International development of the brand, including EuroDisney Paris which was one of his key early projects as was all of the Disney video and DVDs. One of the key scientists is Lou Ignaro, the man who did the science behind Viagra and won a Nobel Prize in 1998. He now works exclusively with Herbalife. Chair of the Medical Advisory Board is Dr. David Heber the World's leading nutritional scientist.
So, before those of you who THINK you know start blabbing off, perhaps you should do a LOT MORE reseach and perhaps LOOK at YOURSELF in the MIRROR....
So, I hear you ask, why are you only retailing for Herbalife if they're so good. Excellent question and there's a very simple answer. Success with either of these companies requires A LOT of hard work, persistence over several years. Don't kid yourself it's any other way. Yes, I have met and know distributors who have developed significant incomes quite quickly, but this is definitely NOT the norm.
As a husband and father of 2 wonderful boys (ages 6 and 7) it has become important to determine the life I want to create over the next few years. So, my wife and I reviewed what it was we really wanted out of life and thought long and hard about the lifestyle we wanted to create over the next few years.
Our primary goal is to spend upwards of 6 months each year travelling around Europe (I live in the UK) and other regions of the World with our children. This is because we believe our kids will gain a better education in life and the world around them by experiencing many different cultures around the World. They already attend private school which has an open and flexible teaching strategy to support parents and children who travel extensively.
So, when we reviewed the level of on-going commitment that would be required to maintain our Herbalife or Amway businesses we realised that this would be in conflict with our other goals. Therefore, while we are still with Herbalife, our focus is very much on maintaining our customer base and helping people benefit from the products. And we make around £1000 net profit (after all business deductions) per month.
So, you might ask, How are you going to fund your lifestyle? Well, we have taken the business principles and lesson we learnt by being involved with Amway and Herbalife and applied them to new business ventures. We now have 5 different businesses that require different amounts of time and capital investment. We see each one as an independent revenue stream, each with the potential to generate a significant income. Our goal is to reach £10,000 per month by the end of 2004. This means each "business" only needs to generate an average £2,000 per month. As our lifestyle income needs are only around £6,000 to £7,000 per month, we have enough contingency to weather the ups and downs of business life.
Interestingly, we still see some of our former friends (distributors) from Amway - some are doing well and have progressed, some have stayed about the same, some have moved on to do other things. BUT, all of them appreciate the personal development, self-learning and general business education they got from their different Amway experiences. AND the same is very true for most of the Herbalife distributors we know in the UK, Europe and the US.
I have to say that we have always strived to inform people of the downsides to this type of business. We have positively encouraged people to thoroughly research the whole field of Direct Sales. After all, it is a marketing method used by the vast majority of large, product-driven corporations. Most importantly of all is the regulatory body for the industry - the Direct Selling Association - DSA. You can find them at www.dsa.org . They have extensive powers working with many government agencies in many countries.
Are the SCAMS out there? Absolutely there are!! BUT, if you do your research properly, take advice and information from qualified sources and not self-opinionated no hopers, and take your time and every opportunity to speak to as many active distributors as possible before committing yourself, you will find the opportunity that's right for you.
One word of warning... There is absolutely no point whatsoever, getting involved with a legitimate direct sales, mlm, referral marketing opportunity unless you are prepared to treat is seriously. You need dedication, commitment, consistency and above all else perseverance and patience to develop your business. Compared to many other ways of developing a business the right direct sales/mlm opportunity is significantly cheaper, more fun and can be started for a much lower level of risk. Just don't think you can get rich over night for no effort - that is simply NOT true. If you choose to get involved, do so with your eyes wide-open and a clear picture of what you are trying to achieve. Do this, be hungry to learn and you have every chance of succeeding.
