In reply to: John Coffman 's message, "High Speed Internet: What now?" on 11:15:33 04/13/03 Sun

The facts as I know them:

1. The high-speed Internet service facilities are based in the clubhouse ("demarc room") and are the responsibility of the Master Association and their board, i.e., Simpson Housing representatives.

2. The Master Association has a contract with US Online to provide high-speed Internet service. Whether or not US Online provides that service themselves, or through a subcontractor such as Broadband Now or anyone else, does not matter so far as the contract is concerned. The bankruptcy of Broadband Now is US Online's problem to solve, not ours. By hook or by crook, it is US Online's responsibility to ensure that we have high-speed Internet access. If US Online fails to provide high-speed Internet service, they will be in breach of their contract.

3. Master Association board representatives have told the EVOS board that if US Online breaches their contract, they will be terminated and a substitute vendor contracted (this would include cable TV as well). We don't know who that would be, but Comcast (previously named AT&T Broadband) has been discussed.

4. The EVOS board unfortunately has no direct control over any of this. We can only let our desires be known to the Master Association board and try to influence their actions. Any opinions you or other owner/members of the EVOS HOA have are something we would be delighted to hear and pass on to the Master Association board.

5. Also, at the moment the DSL seems to be still working. If and when you or any other owner experiences any problems with any service provided by US Online, the EVOS board would be very interested in hearing the details so that we can build a log to present as supporting materials to the Master Association board.
