*Des slips down a dark alley, listening to each footstep she takes, and the constant dripping of a leaking drain. Her eyes gradually adjust to the sheet of darkness, as she moves onward down the alley. She was used to this kind of place. A place where the shadows kept her company in her secluded life. Maybe that was what set her apart from others. Because she was drawn to the darkness that surrounded her. It was her haven, and it would remain that way. Each step she took, seemed to drag her further out of the world she hated, and into the arms of an emotionless life. She leans against the damp wall, feeling calm and content. Her thoughts seemed to leave her, just as her conscience had so many years ago. The shadows were where she belonged, and she accepted that.*
