My family moved from Hawaii to Oregon in late 1969. My maternal uncle worked for the park service and lived just out of town in Estacada. We went to visit as my mother was raised in Estacada/Viola area. Driving through on the first day of the concert I remember the lines of cars for miles and miles lined up on both sides of the road - barely enough room to get a single line of cars through - lots of people walking to get to the concert. It took us a long, long time to get through. I remember passing by the McKenzie river and seeing a lot of people buck naked, covered in mud. They had made a slide down the side of the enbankment and were running and sliding down into the river and then climbing back up the bank. I remember my mom having a fit and trying to get my brother to cover my eyes in the back seat of the care so I wouldn't see the full spectrum of human genitalia! Too late, mom. My dad and I went in my uncle's park service truck the day after the concert and the mess was incredible. Clothes, shoes, diapers, underwear, garbage, beer bottles - the place was a mess. I heard years later some of the consessioners were selling pot in Frito Lay chip bags during the concert.
