Drove down with friends in a VW beetle from Virginia. When the festival was postponed due to an injunction, we looked on a map and there was a state park nearby where we camped until the festival started. Met a cool couple from Ohio. Can't remember their names. We were probably one of the few who bought tickets. Remember being inside the gates and people storming the fence until it collapsed and the crowds flooded in. I remember the miles and miles of traffic getting to the festival. There was guy dressed up as Jesus towing a huge cross. There was a group of people with a huge Tepee. Over 100 degrees--We floated naked on rafts in the river. Got the sunburn of my life. Met some fishermen in a boat who offered us mint julips and sandwiches. The music was great. Particularly loved Mountain, Melanie (think I remember she landed in a helicopter), Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Allman Brothers, and I think Grand Funk Railroad. There were crews filming the music, but it was never released. A guy on the other site says he was part of the the filming by Jackson Sound Studios and has all the masters. We had an absolutely wonderful time! Still have my Celebration of Life t-shirt. Went to Atlanta Pop Festival II where Jimi Hendrix played the Star Spangled Banner to fireworks on the 4th of July--talk about awesome! Boy, those were the days....
