Greetings; My dad did his boot at Sampson in, I think 1944.
He sustained some sort of leg injury in a training accident, required hospitalization and had to recycle. He subsequently served on the USS Gen Callan, a troopship in the later part of WW2 as a shipfitter. I wish he had known about this website. He often spoke of his time at Sampson. Don't think it was the best time of his life. Thanks to all who are preserving the memory of those folks and those days. He passed away in December of 1987. When I happened across the site, I thought I may fine a pic of him in one of the Co Photos. Thanks again. A grateful son.
