V-6 designated someone who had been in a Naval Reserve Unit in college before going into active service. A striker was a Seaman 1/c who had finished the training for a specific specialty (such as I was an Aviation Ordnance Man striker)and whose next promotion would be as a petty officer and a "Aviation Ordnance Man" 3rd Class. The striker wore the designation of his specialty without any stripes on his uniform.
