Hi Robert. I saw your message about your time at Sampson and thought I'd respond. My grandfather, Henry Jordan of Lincoln, RI, was at Sampson in 1944. I'm sorry, but I'm unsure of the dates. I know that he was 17 when he enlisted. I have heard many, many stories about his time at Sampson and during the war - he was on a mine sweeping ship and I do know that he spent some time in Shanghai. My grandfather just lights up when he talks about his experiences. I know that thousands of sailors went through Sampson in the 40's, and it's unlikely that you two crossed paths, but I thought I would respond anyhow. Feel free to email me if you'd like. Thanks!
