Bill, I have lately become interested in knowing more about my father's time in the Navy during WWII. He served on the USS Darke from (date unknown)until Nov. 1945. He joined the Navy late in the war (he had received a draft notice), and indeed, late in his life. He was 37 and had a wife and 3 small children. His name was Vaughn Woodward (probably called Woody) and was a RDM 3C. My guess is that he was below deck while on duty. He never talked to us about his war experience and regretably, died of lung cancer in 1962. I wish I had interviewed him when he was alive. Did you know him? And, is there a chance that there might be pictures somewhere I could find?
Hope this e-mail reaches you. I have only just started on my search.
Sincerely, Anita Veltman
