 My father was a Navy medical corpsman at Guadalcanal. Do you have a source for finding out which ship(s) military personnel were on in the South Pacific during WWII?

My son's great uncle was Rear Adm. Owen Comp and we think he was the CO of the USS Catoctin during the battle for Guadalcanal. Can you confirm this and give us more information about the Catoctin, i.e., is the cruise book for the Catoctin online or how do we obtain it?
