Unfortunately, both my parents died in a house fire before I developed this interest in his service.

I spoke to my older brother who surprised me that he knew the ship - Avery Island AG-76. Apparently my father mentioned that to him at some point. I did a little research before reading your response and some things don't add up.

The Avery Island didn't cross the equater as far as I can see, though my father had pictures of a Neptune ceremony and told me once of the events (very similar to the Whipple story). Is it possible he trained on the Avery Island while it was first being tested and transferred to another ship?

Would Company 548 been kept together - in fact, were the others from Company 548 assigned to the Avery Island?
