I am happy to announce, that construction will resume on Aug. 30th, on the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The project has been on hold for the last five (5) months while New York State solved its budget problems and released our grant monies. Twenty eight acres have been cleared and six building have been demolished on the former hospital site. Due to the delay, the opening date and the burial of our first Veteran is now set for May or June of 2010, as the construction moves along we will continue to update this site. Also, New York State has renamed route 96A(which runs north and south) in front of the Cemetery and Naval and Air Force training site. From routes 5&20 south to the Ovid village line, this section of road, about 15 miles will be known as the Sampson Veterans Memorial Highway. A dedication ceremony will take place before Nov. 1st, I will post the date and time when it becomes available. This Veterans Cemetery is being build in memory and honor of the over 400,00 Navy and 300,00 Air Force veterans that went through Sampson Navy and Air Force training center, and all the men and women that honorably serve our great nation.
