Hi ALL !!! My Grandfather was a Seabee during the WWII and crossed the equator on the shipSS Howell Lykes. The ship was a commercial ship owned by the LYKES BROS shipping co . The ship is named for their father. It changed names about 5 times, the US bought a lot of ships to use as troop transports, this was one of them. .....I will try and load it now.8/29/2010.The photo is of the SS Howell Lykes many years after being out of the war.The certificate I have states that on April 14th 1945 My G-father was changed from a pollywog to a shellback. Man how I miss him........And love and thank every one of the men and women of that generation, what a blessing they are !!!!!!
OK the photo will not copy so go to the site . It describes the collision of the 2 ships.
